History behind the “Country Bear Jamboree”

“Country Bear Jamboree” opened at Disneyland in Anaheim, California  46 years ago on March 24, 1972.

The Country Bear Jamboree was one of the last attractions that Walt himself had worked on.  One day while Marc Davis was working on drawings of the show’s characters in his office, Walt walked in. When he saw the drawings he laughed, completely amused and  taken with the characters. This was a memorable encounter for Davis since Walt passed away a few days later and it would be the last time he would see him.

Originally planned to add entertainment for the guests at a never-built Disney ski resort in California, the show moved out to Magic Kingdom in 1971 as an opening attraction.  After the Enchanted Tiki Room  and Carousel of Progress, this show is one of the longest running stage shows in the history of Disney attractions. It went through a refurbishment and the revised show with a shiny new makeover debuted October 2012. In case you haven’t seen it or just need to quench that Disney craving here is the show below.

Hope that holds you over til you can see it in person!

And if you see Mickey before we do, tell him we said Hi!
